The True Essence of Excellence in Japanese Cuisine Arrives in Napa Valley this Fall as
Highly acclaimed Chef Hiroyuki Kanda, from “Kanda” the 3 Michelin Star restaurant for 9 Consecutive Years is Appointed at Kenzo’s Executive Chef.
(September 10, 2016) – Napa, California -- Kenzo Estate owners, Kenzo and Natsuko Tsujimoto, are proud to announce their latest venture, “Kenzo”, an exceptional, authentic Japanese restaurant featuring a traditional pre-fixe ‘Kaiseki’ menu as well as a pre-fixe sushi menu, slated to open in Downtown Napa this November.
“Kenzo” will join the elite culinary culture in Napa Valley along-side acclaimed three Michelin star restaurants including The French Laundry and The Restaurant at Meadowood. Despite its celebrated and vibrant culinary scene Napa Valley has been devoid of authentic Japanese restaurants showcasing the excellence, passion and artistic essence of the Japanese cuisine and culture through refined dining experiences, renowned authentic techniques and premium ingredients from the region.
Already seasoned restaurateurs with four stunning Kenzo Estate restaurants and tasting rooms in their native Japan, it has been a longstanding dream for Kenzo and Natsuko Tsujimoto to enter the Napa Valley culinary scene with their vision and signature concept. “Kenzo”, which is located at 1339 Pearl Street in Downtown Napa is a 27 seat house including an adjacent private room serving 7 guests and will open to the public for dinner service on November 16th after nearly 2 years of intensive and meticulous planning.
“Napa has always been well-known for its gourmet food and wine culture, serving those with a highly refined palate, but unfortunately, I was unable to find a place for a truly elevated authentic Japanese dining experience”, said Kenzo Tsujimoto. “Since establishing Kenzo Estate Winery I have wanted to share my vision and express the unique beauty of Japanese food in Napa Valley and I am therefore very proud to introduce our new restaurant Kenzo to the region”, he continued.
The Kenzo team has been steadfast in its dedication to the highest standards of winemaking with Kenzo Estate, and will create the same level of excellence with this culinary experience at the eponymous restaurant. Also a key point of the Kenzo dining experience will be as much the viewing of the preparation as it is presentation and accompanying directions guiding diners through the dishes, making the 10 seat sushi bar prime real estate.
At Kenzo’s culinary helm, will be the trusted hands of Executive Chef Hiroyuki Kanda, one of the most admired and celebrated Chefs in Japan, whose award-winning restaurant “Kanda” has achieved three Michelin stars for 9 consecutive years. Chef Kanda was selected by Kenzo and Natsuko for his level of excellence and drive to present their shared vision, unique respect and harmony between food and wine. “I have the utmost respect for the philosophy and approach of Chef Kanda and I admire his incredible passion and craft”, said Natsuko Tsujimoto. “It is of course a challenge to recreate the same level of quality, authenticity and beauty of his cuisine outside of Japan, but I believe with our vision and his talent, we absolutely can achieve the goal we set out to accomplish with Kenzo”, Mrs. Tsujimoto continued.
Chef Kanda, who has been working on the menu, concept and oversight of all staff training to meet their collective standards of excellence, will be relocating to Napa for the opening and will continue to work out of the region ongoing seasonally. In addition, all Kenzo key culinary staff has been training in Japan with Chef Kanda at his restaurant for several months to ensure that performance, preparation and presentation all meets his expectations.
The fusing of Japanese tradition with innovative techniques and presentation at Kenzo is sure to transform all perceptions of Japanese cuisine. The sublime, rich flavors of veritable Japanese Edomae Sushi and Kaiseki delicacies designed by the world renowned Chef Kanda will be created with premier and unique seafood selections from the world’s largest and most acclaimed fish and seafood markets flown in daily from Japan, to delight all the senses. Chef Kanda’s unique delicacies will be expertly paired with the full Kenzo Estate wine collections along with an array of fine Japanese sakes in a most unique environment, curating the most engaging, robust and authentic food and wine experience from Japan to Napa Valley.
